Burn-out from our pharmacist jobs and re-assessing life after a severe honeymoon illness, we quit it all to travel the world for a year.

but we didn’t just QUIT…

We saved and planned for years to make our dreams a reality.

Us

  • 2020: Met at work. At first we didn’t get along, but we quickly fell in love.
  • 2021: We were engaged in Naxos, Greece
  • 2022: Married at Katie’s family cottage in a two-ceremony micro-wedding.
  • Between the two of us, we’ve travelled to more than 50 countries.

how we got Here

An amoeba infection was the best thing that ever happened to us…

In October 2022, days into our dream, month-long honeymoon in the UAE, the Philippines, and Vietnam, Katie contracted a severe amoeba (gut) infection. She was hospitalized twice and we were forced to return to Canada for emergency medical treatment.

As Katie healed, we were crushed. We didn’t know when we would ever get the chance to visit Asia again. We had demanding jobs as pharmacists. In our fields, work is expected to be your #1 priority.

Katie’s infection showed us that life is short. We always thought we would have so much time, but time isn’t guaranteed. We made a big decision – prioritize our dreams.

For 18 months, we saved everything we could. We both picked up extra jobs, worked overtime, and severely cut back our expenses.

While saving, we both struggled with health issues and doubts about whether we could make the trip a reality. Despite our worries, we continued to prioritize saving.

In May 2024, we left Canada on a one-way flight to Tokyo, Japan. Since then, we’ve driven a rental tuk-tuk all around Sri Lanka, wild-camped in Oman, and snorkeled with whale sharks in the Maldives.

Our Instagram account quickly grew to over 20,000 followers in 8 months. We’re so thankful for the community of travelers we’ve found.
